About the school
Monkton Combe School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 13
to 18 years. lt is part of the Monkton Combe group of schools, which also comprises the pre-prep and prep schools which are located on a separate campus. The school was founded in 1868 and is overseen by a board of governors.

The school has two sections: senior school, for pupils aged 13 to 16 years, and sixth form, for pupils aged 16 to 18years. Boarders are accommodated in six boarding houses within the school grounds, three for female pupils and three for male pupils.

Since the previous inspection, the school has continued to develop its pastoral tracking. Leadership and governance have been restructured and the school has developed the facilities for technology, outdoor education, sport and music, and co-curricular learning.

What the school seeks to do
The school aims to inspire young people to become confident, kind and ambitious adults who live
fulfilling lives. It seeks to provide what it terms a proactive pastoral environment in order to develop academically strong enthusiastic learners within a living Christian ethos.

About the pupils
Pupils come from families with a range of professional and ethnic backgrounds, and include a number
of international boarders. Nationally standardised test data provided by the school indicate that the ability of the pupils is above average. The school has identified 86 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), which include dyslexia and other conditions, 29 of whom receive additional specialist help. No pupil in the school has an education, health and care (EHC) plan. English is an additional language (EAL) for 74 pupils, whose needs are supported by their classroom teachers. Data used by the school have identified 93 pupils as being the most able in the school's population, and the curiculum is modified for them and for 14 other pupils because of their special talents inareas such as music, sport, drama and art.
