About the school
Ashville College was founded in 1877 and became co-educational in 1984. An associated of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, the school is located on-one site comprising: The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), for children aged 3 to 5, a junior school for pupils aged 5 to 11, a senior school for pupils aged 11 to 16 and a sixth form for pupils aged 16 to 18. The school has two boarding houses for senior male pupils and one each for senior female and junior co-educational pupils.

Since the previous inspection, the school has appointed a new headteacher and refurbished the sixth form, a boarding house and the information technology infrastructure.

What the school seeks to do
The school's aim is to be a caring Christian community that develops the full potential of each pupil. It undertakes to maintain high educational standards, stimulate excitement in learning and discipline in study, nurture resilience, confidence, open-mindedness and preparation for life.

About the pupils
Pupils come from a range of professional backgrounds, mostly from white British families living within a 20-mile radius of the school. Boarders come from the UK and from 11 overseas countries. The school's own assessment indicates that the ability of pupils is above average. The school has identified 158 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), which include dyslexia, all of whom receive additional specialist help. No pupil in the school has an education, health and care (EHC) plan. English is an additional language (EAL) for 73 pupils, whose needs are supported by their classroom teachers. Data used by the school have identified 54 pupils as being the most able in the
school's population, and the curriculum is modified for them and for 90 other pupils because of their special talents in sport, music, art, drama and design technology.
