The school sets out to create an approach to teaching and learning that equips pupils with the skills to be resourceful, independent and creative in whatever path they choose to follow. Its approach is based on individual attention to pupils'needs so that they will leave the school as well-balanced individuals with the attributes needed to lead happy and fulfilling lives and to contribute generously to society.
Pupils come predominantly from a range of business, professional and arts backgrounds. Boarders come from across the United Kingdom but mostly from London and the south of England. Overseas boarders are drawn largely from China, Hong Kong and Germany. Nationally standardised tests indicate that the ability profile of the senior school is above average and that of pupils in the sixth form is broadly average. No pupil has an education or health care plan. There are 43 pupils who are given extra support as they speak English as an additional language. Of the 233 pupils identified as having special educational needs or disabilities, 90 require extra support. This is provided by the academic support department and within the classroom.
