About the school
Stamford School is an independent day and boarding school for pupils aged between 11 and 18 years. It was founded in 1532 as a Christian school and is one of the three constituent schools of the Stamford
Endowed Schools foundation, the others being Stamford High School (for pupils aged 11 to 18 years) and Stamford Junior School (for pupils aged 3 to 11 years). The school is a charity and the governors
are the charity' s trustees.


What the school seeks to do
The school's aim is to create a happy, exciting and supportive environment where learning is the priority and young people are inspired to achieve their best in all aspects of school life, to develop
their intellectual curiosity and to have a caring and respectful attitude towards each member of the school's community.

About the pupils
Pupils come from a range of backgrounds, mostly from white British families living within a 15- mile radius of the school. Nationally standardised test data indicate that the ability of senior pupils is above average, while that of pupils in the sixth form is broadly average. The school has identified 145 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND),38 of whom receive additional specialist help. Four pupils in the school have an education, health and care (EHC) plan or a statement of special educational needs. English is an additional language (EAL) for twenty-five pupils, whose
needs are supported by their classroom teachers and through specialist help.

Welcome to Stamford School, where we have been educating boys for over 475 years. Today, for our 700 pupils, we maintain our traditional values but with a very modern outlook. We understand how to build a love of learning and develop intellectual curiosity, to instill the values of teamwork and competition on the sports field and through adventure and to fire imaginations through music, art and drama.

At Stamford we seek to foster a sense of personal responsibility, service to the community and leadership in every individual. In essence to help him to discover and develop the gifts which are already within him to their full potential. Our ambition is to inspire our boys not only to comprehend the world around them but also to go out to improve it.

Inside of our classrooms, the highly prized qualities of collaboration, teamwork and bringing out the best in others are right at the heart of a Stamford School education. Learning may incorporate state-of-the-art technology, but the focus is upon thinking and communicating creatively, and interacting with others to solve complex problems across the whole curriculum.

That said, there is no doubt that young people value first-hand experiences more than ever, so taking education outside the classroom – to Iceland, America, Costa Rica, New Zealand and Sri Lanka; and more closely to Flanders, London, Stratford and the Lake District; to plays, museums, national parks and sites of historical importance – continues to be such a vital and vibrant part of our education.

The pages which follow will give you some idea of the opportunity a Stamford School education offers, but they are no substitute for you visiting the School. I believe you will find the environment busy, focused, caring but overwhelmingly happy. Our Open Days take place twice a year but at any other time I should always be delighted to meet you and show you the School.
