About the school
St.George's is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged between 11 and 18 years. It is a registered charity overseen by a board of governors.
Since the previous inspection a new head has been appointed. The school has opened a new Library and new classrooms for languages.
The school started in the nineteenth century as a prep school for boys. It became a girls' school in 1904.
Day girls stay at school and complete their homework before leaving for home. There are three boarding houses, catering for different ages. As well as full boarding, there are a variety of tailored boarding opportunities available.
What the school seeks to do
The school aims to be a place where girls flourish academically, creatively, physically and morally; where risks can be taken and challenges embraced. The school strives for the very best for its pupils,
so that they become happy, responsible, well-balanced and resi lient individuals, ready for the outside world.
About the pupils
Day girls come from a range of professional backgrounds, living within a 20-mile radius of the school. Boarders come from the UK and overseas. Nationally standardised test data provided by the school
indicate that the ability of the pupils is above average in the senior school, and below average in the sixth form. The school has identified 59 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, which include dyslexia, of whom 31 receive additional support. No pupil has an education, health and care plan or a statement of special educational needs. English is an ad ditional
language for 45 pupils, of whom 29 receive support with their English. Data used by the school identifies 40 pupils as being the most able in its population. The school supports their needs through
an extended curriculum and enrichment op portunities.
