About the school
Bede's Senior school is a co- educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 13 to 18. St Bede's School Trust Sussex has a single board of governors, who oversee the senior school and Bede's
Preparatory School, which it is linked.
The school was founded in 1978 on the site of Bede's Preparatory School in Eastbourne and relocated to its current 140-acre site in 1979. There are five boarding houses which accommodate pupils, together with five separate houses for day pupils. Since the previous inspection, a new chair of governors has been appointed and a new sixth form centre opened.
What the school seeks to do
Bede's aims are to seek every available opportunity to support, guide and inspire pupils to be passionate, curious, independent, happy and ambitious, both for themselves and for others, inside and outside of the classroom. Furthermore, it seeks to progress and promote each child's unique talents through personalised, high-quality academic, creative, co-curricular and sporting programmes, and in doing so ensures that every Bedian contributes to the collective successes of the school and the outside world.
About the pupils
Pupils come from families with a variety of social and cultural backgrounds, from the surrounding area and overseas. Nationally standardised test data provided by the school indicate that the ability of the pupils is above average. The number of pupils requiring support for special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is 119. They require sup port with a range of learning and physical disabilities. Two pupils have an education, health and care (EHC) plan. There are 134 pupils for whom English is an additional language (EAL); 68 of these receive support from the school. The curriculum is modified for pupils identified as the most able or as having a particular talent.
