About the school
Bruton is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged between 3 and 19 , and boys aged between 3 and 7. Girls are accommodated in two boarding houses on site.The school is a registered charity administered by a board of governors who act as trustees.

Founded in 1900 in Bruton as a private boarding and day school, it became fully independent in 1944. Since the previous inspection, the school has re-organised the teaching accommodation and refurbished the main teaching blocks. Boarding accommodation has been upgraded both for the sixth form and younger boarders, and the EYFS accommodation moved and updated.

What the school seeks to do
The school aims to create an environment with the space to inspire, challenge, encourage and support every pupil to develop their full potential. Each individual is encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, self-esteem, confidence without arrogance, respect and care for others，independence, excellence in all they do and a love of life.

About the pupils
The day pupils come mostly from white British families with business, professional, creative or farming backgrounds from the locality. The boarders come from the UK as well as from a wide variety of different countries overseas.

Nationally standardised test data provided by the school indicates that the ability of the pupils in the junior and senior schools is above average and in the sixth form broadly average.

The school has identified 46 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), which include dyslexia, dyspraxia and processing difficulties, 31 of whom receive additional specialist help. Three pupilsin the school have an education, health and care (EHC) plan or a statement of special educational needs. English is an additional language (EAL) for 23 pupils whose needs are supported by their classroom teachers and specialist tuition. The school has identified nine pupils as being the most able in the school's population and the curriculum is modified for them through additional option choices, some accelerated examination entries and an external enrichment programme.
