About the school
Queen Anne's School is an independent day and boarding school for female pupils aged eleven to nineteen. Founded in 1698 in Westminster as the Grey Coat Hospital, it became a school for femalesin 1874, moving to the present site in Caversham in 1894. In 2019, the Grey Coat Hospital Foundation merged with the United Westminster Schools Foundation to create the United Westminster Grey Coat Foundation,which maintains oversight through an independent governing body. Boarders are accommodated in four boarding houses; there are three day houses. Since the previous inspection, the school has completed a new main entrance, school office and music centre , including a recital halland a recording studio.

What the school seeks to do
The school aims to promote excellence in allareas of education within a Christian ethos so that pupils will be successful, happy, self-reliant, enterprising individuals who are supportive, tolerant and compassionate people.

About the pupils
Pupils are mainly from families with professional backgrounds, with day pupils from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and boarders mostly from the south of England or countries in Europe, Africa and Asia. Data provided by the school indicate the ability of pupils from Years 7 to 11 is above average compared to those taking the same tests nationally. ln the sixth form, the pupils' ability profile is average for pupils taking A-level courses. The school has identified 55 pupils requiring support for special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND); all of these receive specialist learning support from the school, mostly for dyslexia. One pupil has an education, health and care (EHC) plan. There are 69 pupils who have support for English as an additional language (EAL). Data used by the school have identified 60 pupils as being the more able in the school's population; the curriculum ismodified for them.
