University College School (UCS) was founded in 1830 as part of University College London and moved to Hampstead in 1907. It is a day school for boys aged 11 to 18 and girls aged 16 to 18. The UCS Foundation, now independent of the University, comprises three day schools: the senior school forboys aged 11-18 and girls aged 16-18, the junior branch for boys aged 7- 11 and the pre-prep for boys and girls aged 3-7.

The UCS Foundation is administered by a governing body called The Council, who are the trustees of the UCS charity. The junior branch was inspected concurrently with the senior school.

Since the previous inspection in 2011, the school has introduced a new tier of school leadershipincluding the appointment of four assistant head-teachers. There has been an expansion ofadministration space, including a new visitors' reception office, and an art gallery has been created. The music department has been further developed and there has been an extensive refurbishment ofthe school kitchen. Extensive development at the school's playing fields in West Hampstead isunderway, including construction of a new pavilion.
